Sustainability Advisor

You will assist the Sustainability Manager with the management of sustainability and Our Vision in order to meet local aspirations and to help the Group work towards its aim of being a world-class company. You will focus on sustainable construction and environmental management of our live construction projects.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Undertaking frequent visits to construction sites to assess compliance with the in-house environmental management system;
  • Assisting in the accurate collation, analysis and reporting of data (such as waste volumes and utility use) to enable the assessment of performance against sustainability targets;
  • Working with project teams to implement on site initiatives and making recommendations for improvement;
  • Input into construction site set ups and procurement of key packages for more sustainable outcomes;
  • Raising awareness of sustainability via both formal and informal training of staff;
  • Keeping up-to-date with the sustainability agenda, new legislation and best practice guidelines and understanding how they may affect the company;
  • Preparing guidance to assist project teams in managing sustainability;
  • Attending meetings with project teams to discuss sustainability performance;
  • Working as part of the Group's Sustainability Committee to drive good practice and implement commitments;
  • Compiling written reports on sustainability performance; and
  • Adopting a proactive approach to improving performance by engaging with the management team and all staff.

Technical Competencies:

  • Hold a degree in a relevant subject and will have several years of experience in an operational sustainability or environmental role, preferably within the built environment.
  • You will be motivated and enthusiastic about promoting sustainability.
  • You must also be confident, articulate and resilient in your approach, with the ability to apply sustainability principles in a commercially focused manner.

Person Specification:

  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Confidence in working with people at all levels in an organisation
  • The ability to motivate people to change their behaviour
  • Experience of delivering training
  • Good knowledge of sustainability issues within the construction/house building industry
  • A broad view of sustainability, focussing not only on environmental issues, but also the relative importance of social and economic impacts of our activities
