The Service Manager plays an important role on our team. The Service Manager is responsible for supervising and directing all work completed within the service department as well as managing the financial performance of the service department. In addition, the Service Manager helps oversee total dealership operations as part of the management team.
On a daily basis, a Service Manager:
Supports and models the Service Motor Company stated Mission, Vision and Values.
Determines schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities.
Prepares staff work schedules to ensure the department is staffed at all times, including the after-hours on-call schedule.
Monitors employees' work, reviews work performance, and coaches' employees for a successful outcome.
Inspects, tests, and measures completed work to verify conformance to standards and/or repair requirements.
Approves and signs off on work orders prepared by service writer, including time and cost estimates.
Calculates actual costs including parts, labor, and other fees, and closes work orders for completed work.
Discusses work orders with customers and technicians to ensure expectations are being met.
Follows up with customers on work order status and any unexpected issues that may arise.
Conducts or arranges for employee training including monitoring vendor training needed by each technician to maintain knowledge and relevant certifications.
Ensures collection of revenue for all customer, internal and warranty work completed by the service department.
Inspects work areas to ensure a clean and safe work environment. Completes or delegates housekeeping as needed.
Investigates accidents or injuries, prepares and submits related reports, and determines correction to avoid similar incidents in the future with training and safety specialist.
Manages the manufacturer brand recertification process on an annual basis.
Calls customers to promote service department specials and promotions and to solicit work.
Maintains inventory of shared tools, supplies, and reference materials in the shop and orders additional items as needed.
Provides input and assists with creating the annual department budget.
Reviews financial reports and takes corrective action if goals are not being met.
Supervises service department employees, including interviewing candidates, training, coaching & evaluating performance and communicating department and company information.
Back up to service writer duties as necessary.
All other duties as assigned.

Associate's Degree or 2-year Technical Degree in a related field
3-5 years of related experience

This position directly supervises employees with the following job titles:
Service Technician Trainee
This position works in a shop environment with regular variations in light, sound, and temperature levels. There is routinely exposure to dust, other airborne particles, fumes, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, and file cabinets. This position also occasionally uses standard shop equipment such as hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and specialty tools, and occasionally operates heavy equipment.
