Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has immediate openings for two Material Handlers located at Sheldon Station in Hallam, Nebraska. Positions close October 3, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.
These positions will report to the Material Handling Leader. Position Summary
Operate equipment needed to unload and reclaim coal, convey and transport fly/bottom ash, and any maintenance necessary to keep the material handling system at Sheldon Station operational. This includes the operation of all coal systems, trains, and heavy machinery. Education, Training and Experience
Incumbent must be recommended based on the Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) results.
Two-year technical college graduate in a heavy equipment or mechanical maintenance related area OR a high school diploma/GED and 2 years experience as described below
Prior related experience in railroad operations, heavy-equipment operation (grading, hauling, dirt-work, etc.), and/or industrial maintenance.
Licenses and/or Certifications
NOTE: Other work experience or demonstrated performance indicating the applicant has the skills and ability to perform the required duties of the position may be substituted for the specified years of experience.
Class A CDL preferred. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Operate coal unloading, coal reclaim systems, ash disposal systems. Operate heavy equipment and locomotives. Unload chemicals, acids, and freight.
Complete preventive and corrective maintenance work requests for maintenance of coal and ash system areas as required. Rebuild, fabricate, and overhaul coal handling equipment mechanically and structurally (not general maintenance), including but not limited to heavy equipment (tractors, coal pushers, etc.), crushers, and conveyors.
Maintain and police railroad trackage and right of way.
Keep coal system cleaned up for fire prevention and combustible dust avoidance.
Maintenance of fleet vehicles and general plant maintenance support.
Mow, spray weeds, and remove snow to maintain plant safety and access.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth.
Pay Grade - 12 Hourly
Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $32.88 - $41.10
Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
